A little bit of what we've been up to...

Things have been busy around here! I've barely kept up, but wanted to post a little bit (I actually haven't been taking that many pictures lately, due to a combination of exhaustion and busy-ness). But anyway, I couldn't resist including at least a couple of pictures of my boy on the court :). Jonathan has been playing basketball with an A.A.U. traveling basketball team this spring, and is thoroughly enjoying it...

Here are Jonathan and Annie on a field trip we took to a local farm--he was so sweet to let Annie ride on his shoulders because there was a lot of walking and it wasn't stroller terrain...

Our three youngest kids on Easter morning...

And me at 37 1/2 weeks along in my pregnancy! There has definitely been some growth since the last picture--only about 2 1/2 weeks till my official due date, but of course who knows when this baby will actually come! We are all really looking forward to meeting him or her and having a little baby in the house again.

Melissa, you look great! Can't wait to see the newest addition to the Dixon family. BTW, I love both names you guys selected.

Seems that you have quite an athlete in the bunch. That must be fun going to the games. Thanks for sharing pictures.

Thanks, although I will have tons of work to do after this baby is born--I've just been too tired and busy to exercise regularly lately. I am looking SO forward to seeing this baby, I know you feel the same way about yours. It's funny how pregnancies seem to last so long when you're in them, but when they're over, the time seems to have been so short....

We do love to watch our kids' games (Adrienne play rec basketball during the winter as well), but honestly, I love to see them doing *anything* positive that they really enjoy. Now I just need to find time to post pictures from Adrienne's recent play!

Looking forward to seeing pictures from the play. How fun that the kids are involved in various activities. They are fortunate that you and Elijah are interested in what they're doing.

For me the pregnancy seems short until I'm cut off from sugar - then it drags on and on. Just when I can have cake again, I won't be allowed to have sleep. I want my cake and to sleep too!

How do you carry a baby and take care of other kids? Have you tried a sling? If so, were you happy with it? I'm considering getting one.

I can only imagine the torture of not being to eat sugar, I guess the pregnancy does feel longer in that case. Hopefully this new baby will be a good sleeper...

YES on the sling!! I couldn't live without mine. They're worth every penny, I use it like crazy when I have a baby/young toddler. I wouldn't recommend the ones that let the baby's legs just dangle, though. I had one when Aaron was little and he hated it, so I never used it, plus I've learned recently that those carriers are bad for babies' spines. The brand I have is a Maya Wrap, but lots of my friends use all manner of different kinds and like them (one friend really likes the Mai Tais-hopefully that's the correct spelling, others like Hot Slings, and there are more that I can't think of right now). Oh, and once your baby is 4-5 months old, definitely get an Ergo baby carrier. They are awesome, and so comfortable, and Pat could wear the baby in one, too. Hope this helps a little!

Thank you for the information. Can you use yours with the baby lying down, or does he/she have to be upright? Is it hard to tie? Remember when scarves were really fashionable? I NEVER could tie them properly! Does it take a long time to put it on? I did a search and there are SO many that it's overwhelming.

That's funny about the tying, I'm the same way. The Maya Wrap is a ring sling, so I just get the baby in the position I want it in (usually on my chest), put the loosened sling around us, and pull till it's tight enough and the baby is snug. Another sling that lots of women around here use is the Moby Wrap; they seem really nice and comfortable, but I always felt like I'd have to take a class to figure it out! One thing you could do would be to just buy an Ergo and the newborn insert for it. I have friends who did that and never needed another sling. I didn't because I had my Maya Wrap for a few years before I got my Ergo, but if I hadn't, I'd consider doing that. The slings just *kill* your shoulders once your baby gets bigger (like 5 months or so), but are great for when they're tiny.

Oh, and there are lots of different positions you can have your baby in in the slings, but I just always have mine upright on my chest for no other reason than I like that one the best and my babies seem too as well ;).

You look great Melissa, can't wait to meet that sweet little one of yours!

Thanks, Sarah! I am so ready to meet this new baby, but am also appreciating the time I have now to do things with my kids (and the activities seem to have increased this month--thankfully most of them were last week!). Let me know how your house buying is going!

I can't believe how expensive they all are! So do you think the ergo with insert is better than a sling? I want something fast and easy, especially since I have 2 year-old twins (almost 3 by then) to care for. I have a baby Bjorn, but it's the kind where the feet hang out, and I want something contains the baby more.

Good slings/carriers are definitely more expensive than what's usually found at Toys R Us or Wal-Mart, but I believe they're worth it. The Ergo with the newborn insert should be fine; I've never used it with the newborn insert, but friends who have liked it fine. Either way, I *definitely* recommend an Ergo for when the baby gets bigger. It's easy to use, but takes a little bit of getting use to, of course. And getting it on and getting the baby into it requires two hands, but after that, your hands are totally free (and your back and shoulders won't hurt, either!).
